Why Should I Get Chopped Mixed Peel ?
Chopped mixed peel is a mixture of oranges and lemons zest, which is scraped off and is used for its tangy flavour. The fleshy white part of the peel is always bitter when raw, but becomes sweet when candied, a process involving boiling with sugar.
Mixed peel is great for adding a texture to baking, and classically used in fruitcakes, hot cross buns and Christmas puddings.
The best way to use it is to garnish cakes, ice-cream, fruit custards, puddings and most baked goods.
